References to the Ring have popped up in a surprising number of media. Here are the ones we've found so far - feel free to write in if you spot something else!
Abington High School
For their indoor percussion ensemble competition, the awesome students of Abington High School based their them on The Ring! To see the silver medal-winning "Abington Ghosts" posing with a certain mistress of the undead, see their official website. -Zachary
Bollywood (?)
The June 23, 2003 edition of the magazine India Today International stated, "...and Balaji Telefilms' second attempt at a horror film, a supposed remake of last year's sleeper Hollywood hit The Ring, in which people start to drop dead after watching a mysterious video." When asked to comment, one of the producers of the American Ring told me, "If they do make the film, it will be an unauthorized version of it." I have since heard no additional information.
Chobits
In Episode 11 of the Chobits anime series, Hideki is petrified
after hearing a ghost story that he thinks is about a room in his apartment
building. At the start of the episode, Shinbo comes by to pick him up, and when he opens Hideki is in, Hideki falls out of it with a face reminiscent of Tomoko in the Ring! -Myself
Conmen in Vegas
This action-comedy from director Wong Jing apparently features a Ring spoof. If anyone has more details, please send in an e-mail.
Excel Saga
Sadako had a brief mention in episode 20 of this manic anime.
Family Guy
Peter holds up videotape, at which when a girl cries, "They say if you watch that video, you die!" Peter ignores her and slides the tape in the VCR. The movie Mannequin comes onscreen and Peter falls to the floor, his face a twisted wreck.
Fatal Frame II
In this videogame, a girl with long, dark hair covering her face crawls out from a well and stumbles toward you.
Fuji TV
As a way of promoting the American remake in Japan, the Fuji TV network had 11 of its anchors act out a tongue-in-cheek, one-minute "infomercial" wherein each announcer received (and then watched) the deadly videotape. All 11 commercials are posted online at Fuji TV's website (Japanese only, but videos are plainly marked).
GANTZ
In this Japanese manga by Hiroya Oku, each character is given a nickname based on what they do or look like. One of them, a girl, wears a long white dress and has her face covered by her long hair. Consequently, she is dubbed "Sadako." -Reberion
Gonna Go Crazy! Funky Dog
In one episode of the Japanese sketch comedy show Gonna Go Crazy! Funky Dog, they had a parody of the Ring where a guy receives a tape from work. He plays it and Sadako comes out from the well and through the TV. The guy though, embraces the ghost instead of being scared and says something about her being a cute girl and she won't be alone any more. They have a close up of her eye -- to show a tear of joy. Later that guy's back at work when she suddenly shows up with his lunch (implying that he married her). -Derrick Seeto
Gravitation
In volume 8 (p. 182) of this manga, the character of Reiji is shown crawling forward on the ground... the kanji character sada clearly visible. -Santos
GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka)
Volume 13 of this popular manga had the character of Fuyutsuki Azusa dress up like Sadako (the image is used on the menu cap for this page -- she is saying "Sa...da...ko...") An interesting aside is that in the GTO live action drama, this same character was played by none other than Matsushima Nanako, aka Asakawa Reiko from the Ring! -J.M.
Not to be outdone, however, the anime version of the show also had a Sadako reference. Episode 23 ("Superstition") featured a scene inside a movie theater--and onscreen, Sadako crawled from the TV to stare balefully at the audience. -Elbe
Guilty Gear
A parody of Sadako named S-ko appears in the game Guilty Gear XX. S-ko possesses the character of Zappa, whose death move kowai yo (lit. "It's pretty scary!") causes S-ko to reach for her victims while a television blares static.
.hack
In the anime OVA .hack//Liminality: in case of TOHNO, Kyoko the characters Kyoko and Tokuoka are sent to the "place where Sadako rests." Tokuoka remarks that the only Sadako he knows is from a horror movie. -SA-kun
Jet Set Emily: Baby On The Go
This ZX Spectrum 48K game features a Ring-themed screen called "The Family of Anna Morgan." The game can be downloaded here. -Knawdas
Kare Kano ("His and Her Circumstances")
In volume 10 of this manga by Masami Tsuda, page 90 has the characters in Kyoto, where one of them states, "I heard that if you fall here, you'll die in three years." To which another replies, "You mean like Sadako?" -Arionis
Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok

In episode 11, the character of Heimdall dresses as Sadako and emerges from a television set to keep Mayura's mystery club from being disbanded.

The O.C.
In this television show, the character of Seth remarks of a certain ill-gained letter, "That letter is like The Ring--anyone who reads it dies!" In a bit of irony, actor Adam Brody (who plays the part of Seth) was one of the teens at Katie's wake in The Ring.
Project Zero 3: The Tormented
Director Shibata Makoto credits Sadako as a major influence in the game's camera-based battle system.
Pump It Up
Rapper Joe Budden's video for the song "Pump It Up" begins with references to the videotape. When someone pops it in, Joe comes crawling out of the TV, digital-Samara style. Later, he glides around the basketball court doing the "Samara Shuffle."

Robot Chicken
In the episode "Operation: Rich in Spirit," a gentleman goes to a video-dating service and is told to pick any tape he wants; if he finds a girl he likes, he can be set up with her. Naturally, he picks THE TAPE, and our favorite long-haired wraith comes out of the TV. However, instead of killing him, she pulls her hair back, smiles and says that she loves "long walks, sunsets, ponies -- so long as they don't keep me up at night." -Kevin
Rugrats
The Interview With a Campfire movie in the Rugrats series featured a scene where one of the friends went missing. When the character of Angelica wondered alound where the person had disappeared to, the television burst into static and a cartoon version of the cursed videotape began to play. -Evilyethopeless
Sadame no condom
For the truly brave comes the sadame no condom (lit "Sada-eye condom"), a latex condom featured after a certain evil-eyed villainess. Having not seen this item for myself I can't comment on whether the motif goes only as far as the packaging or extends to the product itself... Note the broken television in the background. The sadame will not be contained!
Scary Movie 3
This horror spoof featured parodies of Katie, Becca, Samara and Anna.
Shark Tale
A newspaper appearing in the DreamWorks film Shark Tale features an "upcoming movie" called The Hook--the ad for which looks very similar to The Ring. -Clint B.
Silent Hill 4
Several visitors have written in to tell of the distinctly Sadako / Samara-like Cynthia that appears in this videogame, oozing menacingly forward...
The Suffering
In no less than two scenes, picking up a phone inside the video game The Suffering results in a voice on the other end saying, "You will die in seven days." -Frost
Teen Titans
In one episode of this cartoon, the main characters rent a movie called "Wicked Scary." Soon thereafter, Beast Boy makes a comment that the film is cursed, and that strange things will happen when it is watched. -Maxx

Vocabula Tengoku
In January of 2003, a short parody of The Ring appeared on the Japanese TV program Vocabula Tengoku. The parody, titled "Dubbing," featured a cursed tape that had Anna standing in front of the mirror nude...and showed a horrified Rachel running up and covering the eyes of her son, who was gleefully making a copy.
We <3 Katamari
In the Playstation 2 game We Love Katamari, there are a couple of locations featuring stone wells surrounded by bamboo thickets. If you visit one of these areas on the final level (usually referred to as the bird or elephant level), a woman with long black hair can be seen creeping in and out of the well. If you roll her up into your katamari, you can view her in your item collection -- she's labeled as "Ghost." In the same area, another well houses a similar ghost, but holding a stack of ceramic plates; a reference to the ghost "Okiku" from Japanese legend. -bagshotrow

In one episode, Jack and Grace begin panicking at the mess caused in no small part by Grace's laundry being flung haphazardly around the apartment. Jack picks up a glass, and (speaking of Will) gasps, "He sees the ring and then we die!" -Dylan, BaileyDownsGuy
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge ("The Wallflower")
In this manga, the main character Sunako is a fiend for horror films. In volume 1, p. 24, she is wearing a long white skirt, and she turns menacingly toward the main characters, her long hair covering her face. They recoil, stunned, as the kanji character sada appears above her. (Note: The translated English version adds a line to the effect of, "It's that girl from The Ring!"
X-Statix
Issue #18 ("Back From the Dead, Part Six: The Disc") featured the following plot device: a CD single of the song "Back From the Dead" is put together from the final outtakes of late pop singer Henrietta Hunter. Should someone begin humming the song, however, they have just one minute to recite all the lyrics or they will become a rather disfigured-looking corpse. Commenting on this, one of the characters that it's "just like that Japanese movie they remade!" It's also interesting to note that the Henrietta character is pictured in very Sadako-like fashion, long hair covering her face... -Geoff
